The Master of Complications by Roy McCarthy & Zoë Byrne

Almiro Gallery presents "The Master of Complications " by Roy McCarthy and Zoë Byrne. It's a bit of a departure for us, as this is a book launch as well as an art exhibition. We will be offering 100 limited edition 'The Master of Complications' books, as well as showing the original artwork, including illustrations, stories and photographs by McCarthy and Byrne.

You really need to see this exhibition to believe it. If you have even a passing interest in darkly humorous art and fiction then this is the show for you. There are depictions of intercontinental rail journeys, ghostly apparitions, cross-dressing pizza delivery boys and a man encased in glass, beneath a tarboosh. The show runs from the evening of Friday October 24th to Sunday November 9th 2008. Gallery opening times are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 12pm to 6pm. Entrance is free. Have you ever longed for an unnecessarily complex solution to a seemingly simple problem? No? Neither had the unfortunate characters trapped within the confines of this exhibition and the pages of this book. They entered the premises of Herr Franck Muller with apparently straightforward requests, only to be dragged into a perplexing world of violent hallucinations, rat infested tunnels, psychotic Siamese twins and evil dwarves.

Indeed, it seems the authors are also victims of this curse, as they did not choose to write or illustrate these pages. Is it possible that Franck Muller is himself the twisted puppeteer behind the words, illustrations and photographs herein? Is it Muller’s intention that this book serves as a warning of his impenetrable control over humanity?

Quite possibly. He is, after all, the Master of Complications. I bid you good day.
