Qualification: BA (hons) Graphic Design, Manchester Metropolitan University 1979

Portrait Painting, Pastels

statement:
Following a childhood in a country village in south Cheshire Maggie qualified as a graphic designer at Manchester Metropolitan University and then worked as a graphic designer in London for many years. Upon return to the northwest she now paints portraits and is available for commissions or illustrative work for publishing and promotional uses.

Maggie works with an individual style and in a variety of media including oil, acrylic and pastels on bases of board, canvas and heavy paper. The style expresses a person’s individuality and uniqueness through facial form, expressive colouring and tone. She says ‘I try to convey in each portrait an air and feeling that belong to the sitter, capturing those special characteristic elements which are recognisable to their family, friends and colleagues.’

She works from a combination of sittings, observation and reference photography for use back at the studio where the major painting work is done. If the sitter does not have the time to give then perhaps just a couple of meetings are required for the reference material to be constructed and a final assessment.

My website is regularly updated with new work on display and if you are interested in having a portrait painted, perhaps of a colleague, relative or yourself then I am happy to make a visit for a possible commission.
